So as I set out to try and blog nightly about whatever crosses my mind, I got nothing really. I could talk about the murder of George Tiller, the abortion doctor... I could say that as a Catholic, I still believe that abortion is a woman's choice. I could say that though I do not like the thought of late term abortion which Dr. Tiller was legally allowed to do, in the case of mother's health and safety... If abortion is the only hope then abortion is necessary.
Or I could make mention that the Political Right is jumping all over the president for going on a date with his wife when their president was notorious for vacationing... over 400 days (yes equaling over a year's time on vacation).
Or I could discuss the GM bankruptcy, and how the loss of jobs tied to that will have a ripple effect (tire manufactures, parts manufacturers, etc.)... which is essentially what is happening here with CAT (not the bankruptcy, but the ripple effect of the slow down and mass layoffs, their effect on local manufacturers and the slowing of money flowing through this town) but that is far too close to home, and now have been unemployed for just over 6 months, I am not wanting to reflect on my professional life in Peoria.
But I will just keep this simple,

Atomic!
I find it unbelievably intruguing that you are Catholic. I was raised Catholic, and I am assuming you weren't. And I am SO not being judgemental here, my favorite people are ALL Catholics...I just wonder how you came to find it.
this will sound silly... but I was initially drawn to Catholicism out of Irish politics. I became Catholic in 1998. I like the whole ceremony and all that, and believing in a God concept, it just kind of works for me. Some of the personal Church doctrine, anti-abortion, anti-gay, the Pope's belief that condom use in Africa will help spread aids there, the historical abuses of power/forcing of beliefs, all of the priest sex abuse cover-ups, etc... I have HUGE problems with. But with the root practices of the Mass, the Eucharist, Mary/Saint intercessions, etc I find kind of peaceful really.
I believe that all religions are fundamentally the same and it is that mankind has used religion to manipulate and they abuse that power. But just the symbolism of the Catholic Church, the rituals, prayers, and all that, as I said, seems peaceful and comforting to me.
and when I say fundamentally I DO NOT mean fundamentalists... They are the modern day crusaders, forcing their religious beliefs and their practices on others. Somehow they have taken it upon themselves to judge others and condemn them to their versions of hell, which last time I checked, it wasn't their job.
I do not believe that my religious practices and belief system is more correct than any other belief system, Hinduism, Buddhism, Muslim, etc. included. Religion always was and still is a personal choice, a choice I personally believe shouldn't be forced on anyone... or sold door to door.
I have never had a Catholic come knocking at my door, and for that I appreciate that religion. I have always appreciated Mary and the Saints. And Mass was never that bad, short and to the point, usually. I guess I just got stopped short with the whole "right to life" thing.
Irish politics, huh? One woman from Ireland made a whole bunch of Catholics.
